I used to dread Sunday evenings. The weekend would slip away, and by 7 p.m. my mind was already racing through Monday's meetings. I'd go to bed anxious and wake up behind.
Now Sunday is one of my favorite days, because I've built a gentle Sunday reset routine around it. It isn't a cleaning marathon or a productivity sprint. It's a few unhurried hours that care for my body, my home, and my spirit, so I start the week rested instead of rushed. Here's how I do it.
Start With Rest and Worship
For me, Sunday begins with church and a slow morning. Whatever your faith or rhythm, let the first part of the day be unhurried.
- Sleep without an alarm if you can.
- Have breakfast sitting down, not standing at the counter.
- Spend time in worship, prayer, scripture, or quiet reflection.
- Call someone you love.
Rest isn't something you earn after the work is done. It's where the week begins.
Reset Your Body: A Slow Skincare Ritual
Sunday afternoon is when I give my skin the extra time I can't always spare on weekdays.
- Take a warm shower or bath. Not hot. Lukewarm to warm is kindest to mature skin.
- Cleanse gently from head to toe. Take your time and pay attention to feet, elbows, and the back of your neck.
- Smooth rough spots. Use a soft washcloth or a pumice stone on your heels, gently.
- Moisturize generously. While your skin is still damp, apply body cream or oil everywhere, with extra on the driest areas.
- Care for your hands and nails. Trim, file, and push back cuticles after soaking, then massage in a little cream.
This hour is about more than skin. It's a chance to notice your body and thank it for carrying you through another week.
Reset Your Space
A calm home makes for a calmer mind. Keep this part light: an hour or less.
- Put fresh sheets on the bed. Few things feel better on Sunday night.
- Clear one surface. The kitchen counter or your nightstand is enough.
- Restock your bathroom. Refill your soap, check your sunscreen, set out clean towels.
- Start a load of laundry so Monday's clothes are ready.
You don't need a spotless house. You need a few clear spaces that help you breathe.
Reset Your Week
Spend 15 minutes looking ahead so Monday doesn't catch you off guard.
- Look at your calendar for the week.
- Write down your top three priorities.
- Plan simple meals for a few nights, and make a short grocery list.
- Lay out Monday's outfit.
- Schedule one thing you're looking forward to.
Reset Your Spirit
End the day with something quiet and nourishing.
- Write a few lines in a journal: what went well last week, and what you're hoping for this week.
- Read something uplifting.
- Go to bed a little earlier than usual.
Make Your Sunday Reset Routine Realistic
Don't try to do everything on this list every week. Pick one thing from each section and start there. Some Sundays will be full of family, travel, or church activities, and that's a blessing too. On those weeks, even a long shower and fresh sheets count as a reset.
If Sunday doesn't work for your schedule, choose another day. What matters is giving yourself a regular pause to rest and prepare.
A Sample Sunday Reset Schedule
Here's what a typical Sunday looks like for me. Use it as inspiration, not a rulebook.
- Morning: slow breakfast, church, and lunch with family or friends
- 2:00: a short walk or a nap
- 3:00: fresh sheets, one cleared counter, a load of laundry
- 4:30: long shower and full-body skincare
- 5:30: plan the week and make the grocery list
- Evening: light dinner, journal, early bed
How I Use It
My Sunday shower starts with my Black Soap Face & Body Wash. I take a small scoop from the jar, work it into a lather between my hands, and wash slowly from my shoulders down. On Sundays I don't rush. I let the warm water and the earthy lather wash off the week.
Afterward I finish with shea butter cream on damp skin and put on fresh pajamas. It's the most relaxed I feel all week.
Other Products I Recommend
- For a calmer bath: a bamboo bathtub caddy tray to hold your book, tea, and phone (on silent).
This is the day the Lord has made; I will rejoice and rest in it.
